Yahweh Is Exalted in Justice: Solidarity and Conflict in Isaiah

چکیده

This book is a revision of the author’s doctoral dissertation supervised by Paul D. Hanson. The main task of the book is to make an “exhaustive study of justice (misspa at) in the book of Isaiah that is sensitive to both literary and historical [and theological] concerns” (9). Intersecting through the entire book of Isaiah, this term is carefully examined in each occurrence for its correlated and divergent implications “on the understanding of justice itself and on a key theme in a major prophetic book” (15). Other related terms such as “righteousness” (sßéda aqâ), “salvation” (yéssû(â), and “instruction” (tôrâ) are also examined.

There has been a long-lasting problem in ethics: how can one think of justice and goodness as consistent? Imam Ali also explores the connection between them. On the other hand, there ar...

It fol...

Solidarity, justice, and recognition of the other

Solidarity has for a long time been referred to as the core value underpinning European health and welfare systems. But there has been debate in recent years about whether solidarity, with its alleged communitarian content, can be reconciled with the emphasis on individual freedom and personal autonomy. One may wonder whether there is still a place for solidarity, and whether the concept of jus...

A L Ocal , P Artial and R Eflective E Motion –

Solidarity is analysed in contradistinction from two adjacent concepts – justice and sympathy. It is argued that unlike the other two, it is essentially local (rather than universal), partial (rather than impartial) and reflective (an emotion mediated by belief and ideology, interest and common cause). Although not to be confused with justice, solidarity is presented as underlying any contract-...
